The present day occult practice use numerology as a means to foresee omens and determine fortunes. It is often used in conjunction with astrology and dream interpretations to forecast the future. Numbers have always been associated with certain characteristics and attributes. The ancient Greeks perceived odd numbers which could not be separated to be masculine, representing assertion, power, and creativity. Even numbers, capable of being divisible were attributed to feminine qualities such as wholeness, stability or weakness. In addition the Greeks associated the number 888 with the "Higher Mind” and the number 666 representing the "Mortal Mind.” This was further corroborated in the New Testament where 666 is referred to as the number of "the Beast." The number 10 was however is regarded as the perfect number by both the Greeks and the Hebrews.

The number 13 has long been associated with negativity; the roots have been traced to the Biblical narration of The Last Supper with Judas as the 13th apostle. As a result the 13th day of the month, especially if it is a Friday, the 13th floor, 13 dinner guests, and so on are considered inauspicious and avoided especially in America. In Belgium on the other hand it is considered a good-luck charm for women to wear the number 13. The numbers history and association dates back to ancient myths and beliefs. Present day occult art has been revived and the numbers from 1 to 9 reveal different aspects of an individual’s personality.
