Introduction

Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science with principles of town planning and architecture. The literal translation of Vastu is “house" or Dwelling Place. The ancient sages believed that the various aspects of designing and building environments should be in harmony with the physical and spiritual energies of the cosmos.
Vastu is a science which helps one extract the natural benefits of the five basic elements: the sky, the earth, water, fire and wind. Vastu Shastra is an edifice science applied by maintaining a sense of harmony amongst the five basic elements of nature. It’s holistic approach makes it widely accepted in contemporary times.

Feng shui and Vastu Shastra though rooted in two different traditions are argued to be similar as both serve to enhance the positive energy and harmony in the office and home. Though conceptually similar they differ in specific details and intricacies such as the exact direction in which objects, rooms are to be placed. Whereas Vastu’s application is purely architectural and strives to achieve harmony with nature, Feng Shui attempts to better understand our world and create a sense of harmony and stability in our personal and professional lives.
