History
Vastu Shastra developed during the period of 6000 BC and 3000 BC. Ancient architects handed over the subject by word of mouth or through hand written monographs.
The principles of Vastu are mentioned in the majority of all ancient Hindu scriptures like Skanda Purana, Agni Purana, Garuda Purana, Vishnu Purana, Bruhatsamhita, Kasyapa Shilpa, Agama Sastra and Viswakarma Vastushastra.
Vastu assume that the earth is a living organism, out of which other living creatures and organic forms are created therefore every particle on earth and space possess 'live energy'. The five elements - Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Sky dictate the principles of creation and these forces act for or against each other to create harmony or disharmony. Vastu also believes that everything on earth in some way or the other is influenced by the nine planets. The positioning of the nine planets and the five elements can directly effect our abodes according to the Vastu science.
Ancient literature gives evidence that Vastu principals were employed in the construction of temples and royal palaces. Vastu was considered to yield positive results if used correctly. The ancient Indian sages applied their vastu knowledge and judgment to minimize the negative functioning of our environment and increase the advantageous effect that it can have on our life.
